Benefits of eating organic food

Benefits of organic food

Several studies have found that organic foods generally contain higher levels of antioxidants and certain micronutrients, such as vitamin C, zinc, and iron. In fact, antioxidant levels can be up to 69% higher in organic food. Organic plants do not rely on chemical pesticide sprays to protect themselves. Instead, they produce more of their own protective compounds, namely antioxidants, this explains the higher levels of antioxidants in organically grown plants.

Effects of consuming non-organic food

When humans consume the non-organic food products, they indirectly consume the chemicals which weaken their immune systems on account of the harmful pesticides, weedicide and insecticide used. This may alter the immune system thereby rendering humans unable to defend themselves against diseases. As much as pesticides have the power of keeping certain pests away from the crops, they also have potent chemicals like organophosphorus, which is associated with various developmental disorders such as ADHD and autism.

The use of natural techniques such as green manure to fertilize the lands and crop rotation in pest and disease control work absolutely well in producing safer, healthier final food products.

Higher Nutrition

organic foods are free of foreign chemicals that normally react with vitamins, organic compounds and minerals thus lowering the essential positive impacts of antioxidants in food products. Scientific studies say that organic onions had about a 20% higher antioxidant content than conventionally grown onions. Another factor that makes them highly nutritious is that they are given time to develop and are provided with the best natural conditions for growth. The vitamin and mineral contents of organic food products are always high as the soil life and health offers the most suitable mechanism for crops to access soil nutrients.

Lower levels of toxic metals

Since organic farming doesn’t use agrichemicals for crop production means minimized consumption of toxic metals. New studies confirm that organic crops have 48% lower levels of the toxic metal cadmium than conventional crops.

Better in Taste

Apart from nutrition, the mineral and sugar structures in organic foods are tasty because the crops are given more time to develop and mature. The use of natural and environmentally friendly agricultural production techniques is revealed to be the reason for the better taste in organic food products.

Conclusion

Organic products are more expensive than conventionally grown products but if you go beyond the product cost and look at this in totality then there are a lot of savings in terms of medical bills which get unaccounted for in the long run.
We have done analysis which shows that the monthly grocery bill for a family of four increases from 5000 to 7500 if they choose to go completely organic which in percentage term is 50% increase but in absolute number is just Rs 2500 and we believe that is a small cost to pay over a month for the whole family’s health and wellness.

Choose Organic -Its good for you, the society we live in, and the environment as a whole
